How often should commercial fire alarms be inspected?
Current California requires a fire protection system to be inspected quarterly, semi-annually, and annually. The frequency of testing depends on the type of system you have installed and local codes/regulations.
Do I need a fire alarm system and a sprinkler system?
It’s recommended that you have both a fire alarm system and a sprinkler system. A sprinkler system is a great defense against fires, but an alarm is your first line of defense in alerting you to any danger.
What gets inspected during a fire /sprinkler system inspection?
Numerous components of your alarm system will be tested including batteries, main panel function, auditory alarms, and visual alarms.
Sprinkler system inspections may include pipes, sprinkler heads, pressure gauges, valves, fire department connections, and the water flow switch.
When do sprinkler systems go off? Can they go off by accident
Contrary to popular belief, sprinkler systems are activated by heat, not smoke. This means you don’t have to worry about burning your toast in the breakroom activating the whole sprinkler system.
In addition, it’s extremely rare for a sprinkler system to go off accidentally. Accidental activation is almost always due to structural damage.
